Driving license test

　1.Applying for regular heavy motorcycle

 　A.R.C card (at least one year residence period).

 　Three Recent Photos (front view of face, without hat, 1 inch ) and taken within the past 6 months.

 　A registration form with the qualified physical examination.

　2.Points for attention:
2.1
 　The applicant musllkt be over the age of 18.
2.2
 　The driving license is issued based on passing both a written test and the driving test . If the written test
　 is failed, A second application is allowed after 7days . whereas if the driving test is failed, allowed an
　 appointment registration at once, and make up after seven days.
2.3
 　Both the results of physical examination and written test are valid for within one year.
2.4
 　The license issuing must be based on both the written test and the driving test are passes.
2.5
 　The Light motorbike (below 50cc) driving license applicant is exempted from the road driving test.
2.6
 　The applicant applying for a larger heavy motorbike (above 250cc) driver license should hold the regular
　 heavy motorbike driving license at least one year, as well as having completed a 32-hour training
　 course.

Converting to R.O.C Driver's with Foreign Driver's Licence

Requirements:
(1)A.R.C card. ( over one year residence period)
(2)Passport.
(3)Valid driving license from the reciprocating country. (Your foreign driving license must be authenticated overseas
　 by an embassy or consulate of the Republic of China , or Representative Office, Liaison Office or other office duly
　 authorized by the ROC Ministry Of Foreign Affairs or be authenticated in Taiwan by your country's embassy,
　 consulate or other office which is duly authorized by ROC Ministry Of Foreign Affairs.)
(4)A Chinese translation of foreign driving license (if your license is not in English) and must be authenticated by an
　 embassy or consulate of the Republic of China, or by an overseas Representative Office or Liaison Office, or by
　 an official registered notary in Taiwan.
(5)A physical examination certificate for driving license application from a public hospital or health office.
(6)One 1-inch photo black and white or color, front view of face without hat and taken within the past six months.
(7)Fee:NT$200

NOTES:

  • Those who hold a valid official driving license issued by a foreign nation and who obtain an Alien Residence Certificate (within validity of over one year) may apply for a non-professional driving license for the same type of vehicle within one year of entry to ROC without having to pass a driving test on the principles of equality and reciprocity.
  • Rules for applying for a driving license of ROC are based on the principles of equality and reciprocity. Please check the table of reciprocating countries for eligibility.
  • The ROC driving license of a foreign resident is valid for the same period as that person's Alien Residence Certificate. Before the driving license expires, one must first extend his/her period of legal residence. He/she can then extend the driving license at an appropriate Motor Vehicle Office without applying a new driving license. However the accumulated total period of validity of a driving license can't exceed six years.

Apply for an international driving licence permit

Information for foreigners holding valid international driving licenses from reciprocating countries:
You can use your international driving license to drive in Taiwan for thirty days without applying for a ROC driving license. If you are staying for more than thirty days, you should apply for an international driving license permit for driving in Taiwan.

Requirements:
(1) Valid international driving license (if you are applying with a US international driving license, you must also
　 submit a valid local US driving license)
(2) Passport
(3) One recent photo, black and white or color, front view of face without hat (size 2 -inch) and taken within the past
　 six months.

NOTES:
The maximum period of validity for a driving permit of international driving license is one year. If the period of validity of the original international driving license of A.R.C is less than one year, the expiration date of the driving permit of international driving license will be the same date of whichever expires first.
